Every year, the Caribbean braces for hurricane
season which officially runs from June to the end of November.
The 2008 hurricane season was one of the most active on
record and a notably devastating one for the Caribbean island.
In 2008, several deadly hurricanes struck Haiti, leaving
many families homeless and food deprived. Many lives were
perished due to massive floods and mudslides. In addition,
these floods further eroded the nation's soil and contributed
to food shortages, leading the poor and country into despair.
Families were already struggling prior to
the devastation caused by the hurricanes. As a result of
the destruction, the plight of Haiti and her people has
worsened. We at F.O.C.O.M. are working towards raising awareness
and implementing humanitarian projects that will empower
communities and individuals. We realize there are many crucial
needs that must be addressed such as the spread of malnutrition
and diseases, lack of employment and education and more.
And we cannot end all these issues solely by ourselves.
That is why we need everyone's help and we invite other
organizations to work with us towards ending the suffering
of our brothers and sisters.
