STRUGGLING FAMILIES

The average Haitian family survives on what they plant and can harvest as many families depend on the agricultural sector to make ends meet. Due to frequent natural disasters, farm lands are every so often worn away by mudslides and left without the proper nutrients, which reduces crop production. The average annual income earned by a family is less than 200 U.S. dollar. Half of the population struggles to survive on 1 U.S. dollar per day or less, not a lot to allow families to feed themselves. Other families rely on relatives abroad to support them.

With so little, many families face great difficulty to provide for their households. Food can be scarce and very expensive. As a result, children do not receive the suitable nutrition. They also do not receive the suitable health care and education they so desperately need. Despite the grim situation, we remain optimistic that there is a way out of this grave crisis. We can work toward solutions for these families and a better life for them.
